Mad Margret Experiments With the Scientific Method

What is the Scientific Method?  Why do we use the Scientific Method?  Mad Margret answers these questions and more!  This is a great mentor text to use when teaching about the Scientific Method and how we can use it ourselves.  This silly book will be sure to captivate students and have them wondering what will happen next.  The amount of information presented in this text makes it suitable for grades 3-5.

Dreaming Up: A Celebration of Building

Why is building important?  Why should we let students build and dream, especially in the lower grades?  This book shows students and teachers alike the power of building.  A great STEM/ STEAM read, Christy Hale makes comparisons between child buildings to modern designs.  Architecture and Engineering are both illustrated in this text, making it a great addition to a lesson on the engineering process and coming up with ideas.  This text includes comparison and contrast in the pictures making it a great conversation starter for grades K-5.

Ada Twist, Scientist

I LOVE all of Andrea Beaty’s books, but Ada Twist, Scientist is probably my favourite!  The wonderful rhymes and gorgeous pictures add perfectly to the main theme of this story:  asking questions and discovering new things is so important!  In a world where science and technology are booming, this book encourages students to think like and act like scientists!  Ada Twist would be a great read in a K-2 classroom when talking about being an Engineer and would be a great addition to a text set on engineering.

What Do You Do With An Idea?

What do you do with an idea?  Do you ignore it?  Lock it away?  This beautiful and simple book looks at the power of an idea.  A great STEM/ STEAM book that illustrates what we can do with ideas.  This book would be great to use when introducing a new project and talking about how engineers and scientists think.  It could be used in a K-5 classroom because of its’ simple but applicable message!
