Diary of a Worm

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be a worm?  How about what worms do everyday?  If this describes you or your students, this book is perfect!  With its’ white language and wonderful illustrations, it is sure to captivate students.  While it is most definitely fiction, this would be a perfect anticipatory set for a science lesson about worms.  It also could be used across disciplines in writing to teach about story organization.  Either way, it would be great to use in a grade 1-4 class.

When Sophie Gets Angry- Really, Really Angry…

When Sophie gets angry- really, really angry, she explodes!  But then what?  Molly Bang has written the perfect book for teaching anger management!  This book would be great to use in a K-1 classroom, especially in Bible, when talking about anger and what we should do when we are angry.  This book also has a clear sequence of events that would make it a great example when teaching organization in writing.

Scaredy Squirrel

Scaredy Squirrel is afraid of the unknown (like many of us are).  He would prefer the comfort of his nut tree and predictable routine than to do something new or go somewhere unfamiliar.  Then, the unexpected happens.  What is a Scaredy Squirrel to do?  This book has beautiful and fun illustrations (and diagrams) combined with simple language and relatable content.  This book would be great to use in grades K-2 when talking about being scared or anxious (especially in Bible).  The sequence of events would also make it a great text to use when teaching organization in writing.

Blackout

Everyone is busy.  Much too busy.  That is, until the lights go out in the city.  A perfect story to remind adults and children alike to make time to stop and just be with people.  This story has simple language and gorgeous illustrations and would be great to use in a grade 1-4 classroom.  This text would also be great to use in teaching organization in writing because of its’ sequence of events.
